Foundos graduated from Harvard Business School, became President of an international corporation,
launched his own real estate business, and invested in his native Albania.
On July 18, 1943, Ilia Fundo, the youngest of three children, was born in Korçë, Albania. While the family was on a family trip to Greece, the Communist partisans came out of mountains, the borders were closed, and the family became refugees. Only later did he fully realize that was the luckiest
day of his life.
A friend of the family, a Greek Jew who had frequented one of his father’s stores in Bilisht, Albania, came to America and became quite successful. He arranged for the Fundo family’s visas to immigrate to the United States. Lou remembers clearly landing in New York and being greeted by a mob of relatives.
