Elsa Gjonaj Lulaj was born in the Bronx in a typical traditional Albanian household. Her parents, Roza and Zef Gjonaj —who immigrated to the United States from Ulqin in 1968— raised her with a deep sense of faith, work ethic, and love of their culture and homeland. They vowed to keep true to their Albanian heritage and core values, regardless of where they would settle and raise a family—and they did just that.
