The Tirana native, a World Bank expert, advises South Asia and Latin America on economic and fiscal policies.

When Alma Kanani graduated from the Faculty of Economics at the University of Tirana with a degree in Public Finance in 1987, she could not have predicted the impressive projection of her career.
Soon after graduation, in the early 1990s, Kanani landed the job of Director of the National Budget for the Ministry of Finance of Albania. This was within the first few years of one of the most fundamental transitions Albania has experienced—the transition from a central-planning system to a market economy.
She thrived and was grateful for the experience, yetshe wanted more.
