A trip to Communist Albania in the mid-1980s made teenager Julia Black appreciate and value her liberties and rights in the United States, and helped her decide to become a lawyer and eventually President of the Albanian American National Association.
From childhood, Julia Black knew the sky was the limit for young Albanian
American women. Her intelligent parents did not have the benefit of higher education, but
taught Black and her sister the importance of realizing one’s dreams. With their expectations
and confidence, she obtained Bachelor’s degrees in both Psychology and Economics from
the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, and a Master’s in Business as well as a Juris Doctorate
from The University of Iowa. Currently Black practices law, primarily litigation, at a Michigan law
firm she founded and manages.
